Batman vs. Superman won’t back down from Captain America 3, David S. Goyer on a cohesive DC universe

April 9, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios officially announced the release of Captain America 3, confirming that the currently-untitled superhero sequel will hit cinemas on May 6th, 2016 – the exact same date as another currently-untitled superhero sequel in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman.

Well, it seems that Marvel isn’t the only one refusing to budge, with Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman telling Bloomberg that: “It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and May 6th 2016. However, at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman.”

Meanwhile, speaking to IGN, Warner’s DC go-to guy David S. Goyer has briefly spoken about the studio’s ambitions for its DC movie universe, stating that: “I know that Warner Bros. would love to make their universe more cohesive. There have been a lot of general conversations about that, but it’s really, really early. I’m not sure. Marvel has had enormous success, but I’m not sure that everybody should try to emulate them either. It’s just been vague conversations so far.”

Batman vs. Superman sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire) and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
