Universal sets Shrek 5 and Edgar Wright and David Walliams’ Shadows for 2019

July 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was reported that NBC Universal was looking to revive the Shrek franchise following its acquisition of DreamWorks Animation, and now Universal’s Jeffrey Katzenberg has revealed to THR that Shrek 5 has been given a 2019 release date.

Universal plans on releasing two DreamWorks Animation films each year, beginning in 2019 and starting with Shrek 5 and Shadows, a mystery project from Edgar Wright and David Walliams.

As part of the deal, Universal got its hands on hit DWA properties such as Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods. The Croods 2 is set to hit cinemas in 2017, followed by How to Train Your Dragon 3 the following year.
