Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines finds its female lead in Hera Hilmar

February 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Director Christian Rivers and producer Peter Jackson have found their female lead for Mortal Engines, with Deadline reporting that Hera Hilmar (The Oath, Da Vinci’s Demons) has signed on to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Philip Reeve’s book series.

Mortal Engines “is set in a world many thousands of years in the future. Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources. On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands who will change the course of his life forever.”

The film has been written by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and will mark the feature directorial debut of Jackson’s long time collaborator Rivers, who won an Oscar for his VFX work on King Kong. It is set for release on December 14th 2018.
