Kubo and the Two Strings director to helm Bumblebee Transformers spinoff

March 3, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Paramount Pictures has found a director for the first of its planned Transformers spinoffs, with Deadline reporting that Travis Knight, director of the Oscar-winning Kubo and the Two Strings, has signed on to helm the Bumblebee solo movie.

The Bumblebee film emerged from Paramount’s Transformers writers room, and has been written by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Michael Bay is set to produce the project alongside Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Steven Spielberg, as well as Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis.

Transformers: Bumblebee is set for release on June 8th 2018, and so will presumably be fast-tracked into production now a director is on board. Next up from the franchise is Transformers: The Last Knight – said to be Michael Bay’s last – which hits cinemas on June 23rd this year.
