Colm Meaney joins the cast of Tolkien

October 13, 2017 by Ricky Church

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Colm Meaney has joined the cast of the upcoming J.R.R. Tolkien biopic, Tolkien. He joins X-Men: Apocalypse’s Nicholas Hoult and To The Bones‘ Lily Collins in the film with, Dome Karukoski directing from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford.

Per Deadline, Meaney will portray Father Francis, one of Tolkien’s school teachers. Tolkien will explore Tolkien’s formative years at school as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a fellow group of outcasts. The story will follow him to World War I, which threatens to tear their ‘fellowship’ apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.

Meaney is also known for his roles in Layer Cake and the AMC series Hell on Wheels. He recently starred in Nick Hamm’s The Journey with Timothy Spall.
