First-look images from X-Men: Dark Phoenix

December 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Following o from its cover reveal, EW has now posted a batch of first-look images from next year’s X-Men sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which includes shots of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Professor X (James McAvoy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), director Simon Kinberg and Jessica Chastain’s as-yet-unrevealed shape-shifting villain.

“[Mystique] has grown up a lot,” states Jennifer Lawrence. “She’s more maternal which surprised me. She starts to get more protective of the [school] children and Charles wants to push them to prove to the world that mutants can be good for humanity and I just see them as small children.”

“I would call Dark Phoenix a drama,” Lawrence continues. “We have really great action scenes and we go to space like within the first five minutes of the movie. So it’s definitely exciting but emotionally all these characters are taking the biggest, most extreme dives than they have in the whole series.”

After the X-Men team is dispatched to space for a rescue mission, a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean – the Phoenix.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2nd, 2018. Simon Kinberg is directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Jessica Chastain and Lamar Johnson.
