Diane Kruger cast alongside Julianne Moore in After the Wedding

February 16, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last week it was reported that Oscar winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) has been cast in After the Wedding, director Bart Freundlich’s upcoming remake of Susanne Bier’s Academy Award-nominated 2006 Danish drama, and now Screen Daily is reporting that Diane Kruger (In the Fade) has also joined the cast.

The site reveals that Kruger will play Isabel, who runs an orphanage in Calcutta. In desperate need of money to keep the orphanage afloat, she travels to New York to meet a potentially perfect benefactor, Theresa (Moore).

The project reimagines the original movie with two female leads; in Bier’s film, Kruger’s role was portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen, who starred alongside Sidse Babett Knudsen (Westworld). Filming is slated to get underway this Spring, and the project is being shopped to buyers at the European Film Market this week.

This is the second project that Kruger has added to her slate this week, with the actress also signing on to star alongside Eric Bana in the spy thriller The Operative. She has also recently completed filming on the biopic JT Leroy and Robert Zemeckis’ The Women of Marwen.
