Filming on the Batman prequel Pennyworth to get underway later this year

July 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in May, just days after had it been announced that Gotham will come to an end with a fifth and final season, it was revealed that showrunner Bruno Heller and executive producer Danny Cannon are developing another Batman prequel series, this time focusing on Bruce Wayne’s trusty butler / father figure Alfred Pennyworth.

Pennyworth – which has a 10-episode straight-to-series order and will have no ties to Gotham – is set to take place in the 1960s and explore Alfred’s origin as the former SAS soldier forms his own security company, which leads him to work for Bruce’s father Thomas Wayne.

Now, thanks to Omega Underground, we have a small update on the project, with the site reporting that production on the first episode is expected to get underway in the Fall/Winter, and may well shoot in the U.K. given that the series will be predominantly set in London.

Are you looking forward to Pennyworth and the idea of exploring Alfred’s early days? Let us know what you make of the project in the comments…
