Guardians of the Galaxy cast share their support for James Gunn with open letter calling for his reinstatement

July 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Ten days ago, Disney announced that it had parted ways with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, firing him from the planned third instalment of the hugely-successful Marvel series due to past social media activity, where the filmmaker had made tasteless jokes about rape and paedophilia.

Since then, almost 350,000 people have signed a petition urging Disney to reconsider the dismissal, and now his Guardians cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff and Sean Gunn have shared an open letter in support of the filmmaker and urging for his reinstatement on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:

Disney is yet to announce a replacement for Gunn on Guardians Vol. 3, which was about to begin pre-production prior to his firing ahead of a planned 2020 release date. Whether the cast’s support will be enough to convince Disney to reinstate the filmmmaker remains to be see, but one would have to imagine that the idea is at least being considered within the walls of the Mouse House.
