Avengers: Endgame directors reveal which Marvel movies to watch in preparation

April 11, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, have revealed which Marvel movies they recommend people watch in preparation for the film.

It isn’t long at all now until Avengers: Endgame kicks down the box office door for its April 25th release date. With just a couple of weeks left, you might be thinking there isn’t time to watch all the past MCU films in preparation.

Well, Joe and Anthony Russo have helpfully revealed which MCU films must be watched before seeing Endgame, and the good news is that there is only three of them. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Joe said:

“Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War without question because the events of Civil War directly affected Infinity War, and we would argue that the reason they lost to Thanos is because of Civil War. Clearly, that carries over to Endgame. If you’re going to add one more in there, I’d probably say Captain America: The Winter Soldier, only in that those are the four movies we directed, and they’re all thematically connected to one another.”

There you have it! Not bad as far as homework goes. Of course, if you think you can cram in a few more entries between now and then, don’t let the Russos stop you.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones), as well as Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine) and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
