5 bold predictions for the debut AEW show Double Or Nothing

May 24, 2019 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno with five bold predictions for the debut AEW show Double Or Nothing…

A shift in the world of wrestling is upon us. With the debut of AEW, the first significant mainstream competition to WWE is here. All of that aside, All Elite Wrestling is heading into new territory this Saturday with their first live event, Double Or Nothing. Stacked to the gills with incredible matches, great performers, and a few legends, this promises to be one of the most surprising evenings for wrestling.

Trying to lock down any real predictions for a company who’s never showcased their style or storytelling is hard, so below will be some loose ideas on what could happen at AEW’s Double or Nothing.

5. Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki & Emi Sakura Vs. Hikaru Shida, Riho & Ryo Mizunami Will Surprise Viewers

These six incredible wrestlers will give viewers the chance to see real Joshi wrestling. People get a little taste of it when they see someone like Asuka or Io Shirai on WWE, but nothing compares to the actual brutality of women’s Strong Style. Aja Kong is a 30-year veteran and one of the most intimidating performers in the sport, so expect her to be the center of this showcase. Watch out for Ryo Mizunami though as she’s a fierce striker. The real star of the match might be the AEW signee of Yuka Sakazaki though!

4. Hangman Page Enters The 21-man Casino Battle Royale

The story of Hangman Page and his journey to Double or Nothing is a tricky one. At one point, his match was the most-hyped with PAC being a hell of an opponent. Sadly, that match will not be happening at the show and was shown for free on YouTube, due to creative differences. Then on the latest episode of the AEW YouTube series, Hangman announced he would not be at Double or Nothing do to an injury. All signs point to this being a misdirect and we will see him pop up in the show’s pre-show battle royale.

3. Dustin Rhodes Retires

While not as shocking as some of the other moments on this list, the conclusion to Dustin Rhodes’ career would make Double or Nothing a real must-see event. From his recent release from WWE to his amazing promotional video for this match, Dustin’s involvement in his brother’s company will draw in people. But how will this match end? Cody promises to kill off the Attitude Era with his win and Dustin is looking to reclaim his glory lost in years of WWE’s mid-card. Either winner will lead to a wrestling moment.

2. Chris Jericho Beats Kenny Omega

The main event of Double or Nothing will likely be a stunning wrestling bout between two of the best in the world and will get fans talking, but Chris Jericho going over Kenny Omega would stun even more viewers. The company wants to separate themselves from other wrestling promotions, and this is the booking that will shock and awe. Also, Jericho needs the win as this match comes only days before he faces Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in New Japan!

1. CM Punk or Jon Moxley Make A Shocking Debut

Could two of the biggest names in American wrestling head to AEW this weekend? CM Punk will always be a “what if” for this company as his relationship with wrestling is relatively complicated. Until he debuts in this company or completely shuts it down, fans will always wonder when he will show up. But Jon Moxley, the former Dean Ambrose, is an even bigger mystery. Many don’t even know if he left WWE, let alone will be at Double or Nothing. But with a TV show to promote, these are big picks for the brand.
