Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign leaks online

October 16, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After an enormous fan backlash against the design for the iconic video game character following the launch of the first trailer, Paramount Pictures announced that it would be pushing back the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie in order to rework the look Sonic, with director Jeff Fowler stating that: “The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design and you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount and Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”

Well, it seems we may now have our first look at the redesign, with two allegedly leaked images surfacing on Twitter which – if genuine – are sure to leave fans happy, given that the character looks incredibly accurate to the video game source material. Check them out here, and let us know what you make of the redesign, either in the comments below or on our social media channels @FlickeringMyth…

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog is directed by Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke) and features a cast that includes Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), James Marsden (Westworld), Jim Carrey (Kidding), Adam Pally (Happy Endings), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon). It is set for release on February 14th 2020.
