Louis Leterrier in talks to direct Netflix’s Bright 2

May 6, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The upcoming sequel to the David Ayer-directed Netflix’s Bright is reportedly eyeing Louis Leterrier to helm the project with both Will Smith and Joel Edgerton returning as the mismatched crime-fighting partners.

According to Deadline, Leterrier is in talks to take over directing responsibilities from David Ayer for the sequel to Bright. Ayer will still serve as producer alongside Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless with a script written by Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos

Leterrier directed and executive produced all 10 episodes of the Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and also helmed Now You See Me, Clash of the Titans, The Transporter films, and Unleashed.

Bright takes place in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies co-exist and follow Smith and Edgerton as two cops – human and orc – who fight to protect the future of their world. The original film featured a cast including Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Happy Anderson, Kenneth Choi, Brad William Henke, Andrea Navedo, Dawn Olivieri, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz and Jay Hernandez.

According to the outlet, the Bright sequel “picks up the travails of the odd partnership (Smith’s and Edgerton’s characters) but sets it on an international stage.”

However, due to the ongoing global health crisis and Netflix pausing production on all upcoming projects, there is no set filming schedule for Bright 2 as of right now.
