HBO Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death adds Rory Kinnear, Kristian Nairn and more

June 23, 2021 by Ricky Church

Six actors have joined the crew of HBO Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death. Starring alongside Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi will be Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful), Kristian Narin (Game of Thrones), Nathan Foad (Bloods), Samson Kayo (Truth Seekers), Con O’Neill (The Batman) and Vico Ortiz (Vida) as series regulars.

Our Flag Means Death is “loosely based on the real-life adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a well-to-do gentleman farmer from a wealthy family who, after undergoing a midlife crisis, elects to leave and become the captain of Revenge, a pirate ship in the early 18th century.”

Kinnear will star as both Captain Nigel Badminton and Chauncey Badminton, Nair as Wee John Feeney, Foad as Lucius, Kayo as Oluwande, O’Neill as Izzy and Ortiz as Bonifacia.

Waititi will direct the pilot, executive produce and star as the infamous and deadly pirate Blackbeard. David Jenkins created the series and is writing, executive producing and showrunning. Also executive producing are Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted.
