R.I.P. Ned Beatty (1937 – 2021)

Oscar-nominated actor Ned Beatty, known for his work in films such as Deliverance, Network and Superman, has passed away of natural causes aged 83, his manager has announced.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Beatty began his career treading the boards on stage in the 1956 before making his big screen debut alongside Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight in John Boorman’s 1972 thriller Deliverance.

He would then go on to enjoy a long and illustrious career, carving a reputation as one of Hollywood’s finest character actors with over 160 film and television credits to his name, including a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for 1976’s Network and a Golden Globe nomination for 1991’s Hear My Song.

Among Beatty’s other credits are the likes of All the President’s Men, Superman: The Movie and Superman II, 1941, The Big Easy, Roseanne, Homicide: Life on the Street, Shooter, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Killer Inside Me, Toy Story 3 and Rango.
