Florence Pugh stars in trailer for Netflix period thriller The Wonder

October 4, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

Ahead of its arrival on Netflix next month, the streamer has released the first trailer for director Sebastián Lelio’s (Gloria, A Fantastic Woman) historical thriller The Wonder.

An adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the film stars Florence Pugh as a young nurse who is brought to a tiny village in the Irish Midlands to observe a young girl who is believed to have remained alive and well despite going without food for four months.

Joining Pugh in the cast of the film are Kila Lord Cassidy, Niamh Algar, Elaine Cassidy, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Burke and Toby Jones. Check out the trailer and poster here…

The Irish Midlands, 1862 – a young girl stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year old Anna O’Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harbouring a saint ‘surviving on manna from heaven’ or are there more ominous motives at work?

The Wonder arrives on Netflix on November 16th.
