Steven Yeun joins Marvel’s Thunderbolts, rumors swirl he’ll play Sentry

February 24, 2023 by EJ Moreno

From Walking Dead to Nope, Steven Yeun has made a big splash in his pop culture roles. But his latest gig could be his most significant to date.

Deadline reports Yeun has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, the upcoming superhero team-up movie in 2024.

Yeun joins Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

At the time of writing, there’s no word on who Yeun will start as, but Deadline notes the role is not “only significant to this film but could also play a role going forward in future films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Rumors have swirled since the news broke that Yeun could star as Sentry, a superhero in the Marvel Universe who also carries within him the supervillain known as the Void. He’ll undoubtedly play a big part in the Multiverse Saga and has been rumored to serve as the film’s antagonist.

Yeun is best known for his time as Glenn on The Walking Dead. He would later star in A24’s Minari, which earned him rave reviews and his first Oscar nomination for best actor in a leading role. He starred in last year’s Jordan Peel film Nope.

Thunderbolts sees director Jake Schreier helm the project, while Black Widow writer Eric Pearson will pen the script. Little is known about the plot, but rumors say the film will follow a group of villains-turned-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government.

The film is set for release on July 26, 2024.
