We are learning that not every blockbuster needs a sequel, even if it is a wildly popular IP-based romp.
Producer and star Margot Robbie is promoting Barbie for its upcoming awards season race, and the conversation of a sequel came up in an interview. Could we see a Barbie 2? Well, Robbie doesn’t know for sure.
Speaking to the Associated Press in a recent interview, the actress shut down the possibility of an immediate sequel.
“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. It was like [Greta Gerwig] put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next,” says Robbie.

Barbie is now heading toward the Academy Awards after becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 with ease, having pulled in $1.44 billion around the world since its release back in July.
After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world.
