Producer Jerry Bruckheimer talks about the plot for Top Gun 2

April 1, 2014 by admin

Before the death of director Tony Scott back in 2012, it finally seemed that the long-rumoured sequel to the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun was finally starting to move forward, with leading man Tom Cruise all set to reprise his role as ace pilot Maverick. Last year, Jerry Bruckheimer suggested that development on Top Gun 2 would continue despite Scott’s passing, and now the producer has suggested the sequel is “getting closer and closer”, as well as opening up a little about his plans for the plot.

“We’ve been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we’re getting closer and closer,” Bruckheimer tells The Huffington Post. “Don [Simpson] and I tried to develop something, we didn’t succeed. [Tom] Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn’t succeed. Now we’re back at it. The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay. It’s just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he’s very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture.”

Do you want to see Top Gun 2, and assuming they do “find a slot” for the film, who would you like to see taking on directing duties? Let us know in the comments below….
