Jurassic World just shy of $1 billion worldwide after two weekends on release

June 21, 2015 by Gary Collinson

After shattering domestic and global opening records last weekend, Universal’s dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World has pushed its worldwide gross to an astonishing $981 million after just 12 days on release around the globe. It should surpass the $1 billion mark tomorrow, which would exclipse the record set by fellow Universal release Fast & Furious 7 earlier this year when it reached that milestone in 17 days.

Domestically, Jurassic World retained the top spot this weekend, adding an extra $102 million and fending off competition from Pixar’s Inside Out (which opened in second with $91 million – the highest ever opening for an original film). The Colin Trevorrow-helmed sequel has earned $398.23 million Stateside, and will hit $400 million tomorrow, its eleventh day of release in North America, making it the fastest film to do so (The Avengers holds the current record with 14 days).
