Chadwick Boseman says Avengers: Infinity War is “not Black Panther 1.5”

April 25, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Chadwick Boseman has said that Avengers: Infinity War isn’t a sequel to Black Panther.

With the myriad movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it can be easy to think of them all as sequels to each other, especially when it comes to the big team-up events like in Avengers: Infinity War.

And although Black Panther was the last film to be released before Infinity War, Chadwick Boseman has said that Infinity War is its own entity and is not a proper sequel to Ryan Coogler’s movie.

“Avengers: Infinity War is Avengers: Infinity War.” Boseman explained at a recent press conference (via ComicBook.com). “It’s not Black Panther 1.5. …I feel like we have a strong presence in the movie, but it’s its own thing.”

Boseman also told ComicBook.com during a set visit about the influence Black Panther will have on Infinity War: “You have a world problem with Thanos. It’s a problem that affects everyone in the world. Wakanda is on the world stage. We are obviously advanced in a way where we can help the situation. That is all that’s happening here.

“They’re in my world,” Boseman added. “It’s interesting to have them enter our space, which is not something that happens all of the time. I think it’s important for us to give the flavor of Wakanda, and they’re immediate adjusting to our space. I think that will be part of the fun of the movie. The Guardians entering it, obviously there’s a clash. All of it is conflict, but it’s not conflict between us necessarily. It is an emotional, psychological, social conflict.”

We will have to wait and see just how prominent Black Panther is in the movie and if his latest appearance in the MCU is as popular as his first solo outing.
