Incredibles 2 is now the highest-grossing animated movie ever at the domestic box office

July 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

While Ant-Man and the Wasp was taking top spot at the domestic box office this weekend – the 20th straight Marvel Studios release to do so – Incredibles 2 was giving Disney another reason to celebrate as it pushed its North American total beyond the $500 million mark.

With $504.4 million domestically since its release last month, Incredibles 2 has overtaken Finding Dory ($486.3 million) to become Disney-Pixar’s biggest ever earner, and the highest-grossing domestic animated film of all time.

Internationally, Incredibles 2 has earned a further $268.4 million, for a worldwide total of $772.8 million and counting. That makes it Pixar’s sixth biggest film behind last year’s Coco ($806.9 million), and given that it is yet to open in many markets, it’s possible that the Parr family may challenge Toy Story 3 ($1.067 billion) to become the highest-grossing Pixar release worldwide.

Whether it will have enough in the tank to challenge Frozen’s $1.277 billion haul for the biggest animated movie ever remains to be seen…

In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
