Bryan Cranston isn’t sure if Walter White will appear in the Breaking Bad movie

November 10, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week it was announced that Vince Gilligan is teaming with AMC once again to further expand the Breaking Bad universe with a two-hour TV movie. Details on the project are scarce, although we did get a brief nugget of info on the plot which revealed that it would track “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom”.

This logline immediately led to speculation that the movie would pick up directly after the series, exploring Jesse Pinkman’s (Aaron Paul) and his escape following the events of the finale (something which SlashFilm claims to have since confirmed).

So, if that is the case, does that mean Walter White will be absent from the film? Well, it seems that Bryan Cranston isn’t giving anything away, with the Golden Globe-winner telling The Dan Patrick Show that while he’s open to a return, he’s yet to discover himself whether he’ll be involved:

“Yes, there appears to be a movie version of Breaking Bad but I honestly haven’t even read the script. I have not gotten the script. I have not read the script. There’s a question of whether or not we’ll even see Walter White in this movie… If Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, then sure, absolutely… This idea, from what I’m told, gets into those, at least a couple of the characters that were not completed as far as their journey.”

Cranston’s comments certainly seem to support the theory that the movie will follow Jesse post-series finale, although of course it would be easy enough to incorporate Walter White into the story through flashbacks should this prove to be the case.

With filming set to get underway later this month, we shouldn’t have too long to wait until we get some further information on the project.
