The Walking Dead showrunner “working on” bringing back Lauren Cohan’s Maggie

July 14, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Andrew Lincoln wasn’t the only major cast member to depart The Walking Dead this past season, with Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee disappearing after just five episodes due to the actresses commitments to the ABC series Whiskey Cavalier.

However, with ABC swinging the axe on the spy series (and The Walking Dead’s ratings decline showing no signs of slowing down), showrunner Angela Kang has teased the fan favourite character’s potential return to the series, telling Entertainment Weekly that: “I’m not sure if I can say much about it right now actually. I’ll just say that we’re working on it.”

As EW points out, a return is far from guaranteed, as Cohan’s original exit was down to the actress failing to agree contract terms with the network, and with filming on season 10 of the main show already underway prior to the Whiskey Cavalier cancellation, it may not be possible to work Maggie back into the story without a major overhaul.

That being said, AMC also has its companion series Fear the Walking Dead, and a trio of Walking Dead movies featuring Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, so it’s certainly possible that Cohan’s Maggie could pop up elsewhere in TWD universe.
