Kevin Feige says Phase Three is still being developed; Infinity War is “not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe”

October 2, 2015 by Luke Owen

Originally published October 2, 2015. Updated April 13, 2018.

Phase Three is ready to kick off next year with Captain America: Civil War and will be followed by a string of titles including Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Spider-Man, The Inhumans and, of course, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2. With all that in place, you’d think the plot threads had all been worked out, but how much of Phase Three has actually been plotted out?

“In broad strokes,” Kevin Feige told guests at an Avengers: Age of Ultron home entertainment release party. “Sometimes in super-specific things. But, for the most part, in broad strokes that are broad enough and loose enough that if, through the development of four or five movies before we get to the culmination, as you say, we still have room to sway and to move and to go and to surprise ourselves in the place we end up.”

Many people are theorizing that Avengers: Infinity War could be the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, but not according to Marvel Studios producer Jeremy Latcham.

“I think it definitely is an end of some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers,” Latcham explained. “Who knows exactly what’s going to happen yet in that film… It’s not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is the end of part of it, for sure. We’re still trying to sort out which parts that means.”
