What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi in talks for Thor: Ragnarok

October 2, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

It looks like Taika Waititi is set for a trip to Asgard to direct Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, reports The Wrap.

Waititi, who enjoyed huge acclaim last year with the vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows, is in talks with Marvel about taking on the third Thor film, which is part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The director, who also worked on Flight of the Conchords, has reportedly beat out Ruben Fleisher (Zombieland) to the gig.

Chris Hemsworth reprises the role of the Asgardian hero, with Tom Hiddleston returning as the villanous Loki as well as Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif. As yet, there’s no word on whether Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Idris Elba or indeed Anthony Hopkins will return for a third time.

Marvel is yet to confirm the news.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on July 28th, 2017.
