Stephen King adaptation Lisey’s Story finds a director in Pablo Larrain

August 10, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Back in April it was announced that Stephen King and J.J. Abrams are joining forces for a TV adaptation of King’s 2006 novel Lisey’s Story with Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore, and now it seems the eight-episode Apple series has found a director.

Speaking to The Boston Globe (via Birth Movies Death), Moore has revealed that filmmaker Pablo Larrain (Neruda, Jackie) is set to direct the series, with King penning the scripts for all eight episodes. Moore then went on to discuss her love for King’s work, stating that:

“I actually wrote [King] a fan letter after I read The Stand, while I was a student in Boston. He is unparalleled at combining the drama of everyday life with the supernatural, at the idea that there’s this membrane between [them].”

The official Amazon synopsis for Lisey’s Story reads:

Every marriage has two hearts, one light and one dark. Lisey knew it when she first fell for Scott. And now he’s dead, she knows it for sure.

Lisey was the light to Scott Landon’s dark for twenty-five years. As his wife, only she saw the truth behind the public face of the famous author – that he was a haunted man whose bestselling novels were based on a terrifying reality.

Now Scott has gone, Lisey wants to lock herself away with her memories. But the fans have other ideas. And when the sinister threats begin, Lisey realises that, just as Scott depended on her strength – her light – to live, so she will have to draw on his darkness to survive.

Lisey’s Story will air on Apple’s upcoming streaming service Apple TV+.
