John Boyega says J.J. Abrams is “definitely upset” with him over losing his Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker script

December 3, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star John Boyega, who is known for playing ex-First Order Stormtrooper Finn, has admitted director J.J. Abrams is “definitely upset” with him over losing the film’s script.

“Yeah, it was me. Yeah,” Boyega told TMZ when meeting with fans. “It was an accident!” When he was asked about Abrams’ reaction, Boyega said, “He’s definitely upset.”

Asked how he might make it up to Abrams, Boyega joked, “Get over it [laughs]. What I thought would be good is if people get to read the film before they see it. It’s a whole new creative thing I’ve got going on.”

This whole situation stems from a recent interview with Good Morning America where Boyega confessed he was the culprit who left the script under his bed and explains how it ended up on eBay.

“Alright guys, it was me,” Boyega admitted.“Let me tell you how all this went down. It was actually from my apartment. I was moving apartments and I left my script under my bed. I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna leave it under my bed when I wake up in the morning, I’ll take it and then move.’ But then my boys came over and we started partying a little bit, and the script, it just stayed there. And then, a few weeks after, this cleaner comes in, finds this script, and then puts it on eBay for like, £65. The person didn’t know the true value.”

However, Disney and LucasFilm managed to buy the script back before the script for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was sold to another party online.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
