Amazon greenlights Jack Reacher series, will adapt Killing Floor

January 15, 2020 by Ricky Church

Amazon Studios announced at their TCA presentation that they have given a series order to the Jack Reacher television series with Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television. As revealed last summer, the series will be headed by Nick Santora (Prison Break), who will showrun, write and executive produce the series.

Jack Reacher will be based upon author Lee Child’s series of novels which follow Jack Reacher, a former soldier and investigator in the US military who travels across the country taking odd jobs and investigating various cases. Santora will base the first season off Child’s first Reacher novel, Killing Floor.

“Lee Child has created an incredible character and world; it will be the goal of every writer, producer, actor, executive and crew member to capture the essence of Mr. Child’s books – and luckily Lee has been there, and will continue to be there, to help guide us along the way in this series. He is the pulse of Reacher,” said Santora.

The series will be executive produced by Santora, Child, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan and Christopher McQuarrie, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross executive producing for Skydance.

“It’s been great so far, but really, the fun starts here,” Lee Child said of the upcoming series. “By now I know these guys, and Reacher is in the perfect hands, believe me.”

“Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books series is a global phenomenon with one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, and a perfect fit for Amazon Studios’ slate of bold, character-driven series,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “We look forward to expanding the of the Jack Reacher universe and bringing more thrilling action to our Amazon Prime Video audience.”

Though this marks the first time the Jack Reacher franchise has hit the small screen, two feature films starring Tom Cruise have been made. Jack Reacher was released in 2012 from Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuirrie with Cruise reprising the role in 2016’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back from Edward Zwick. Cruise’s casting had come under fire for the differences to Reacher’s physical appearance, particularly the character’s height, which Child ultimately agreed with and decided to reboot the franchise on television.
