Michael Caine has no idea what Tenet is about because director Christopher Nolan is so secretive

March 16, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming time-bending espionage action film Tenet is set to debut later this year and one of the stars of the film and long-time collaborator Michael Caine has revealed just how secretive a Nolan project is.

In a recent interview with The Hindu (via IndieWire), Caine admitted he has no idea what Tenet is about because the director only gave him the script pages necessary for his role.

“He [Nolan] is so secretive he won’t let me have the script. All I had was one day’s work and he gave me my pages,” Caine said. “I did my part and shot only with John David. I haven’t heard anything since.”

Hearing Christopher Nolan is secretive even with the actors should come as no real shock as the director is well-known for deliberately attempting to keep as much information behind closed doors as possible. As an audience, the only information we are currently aware of is there’s a group called The Afterlife and John David Washington is tasked with preventing World War III – and the film is currently set to release in a matter of months.

Caine is one of Nolan’s most frequent collaborators, having appeared in eight of the director’s blockbusters, including Tenet, The Dark Knight trilogy (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises), The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk, as a voice-only cameo.

Tenet is set for release on July 17th and features a cast that includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
