George R.R. Martin wanted to “die horribly” in Game of Thrones’ Red Wedding

April 2, 2020 by Samuel Brace

George R.R. Martin, the author behind the Game of Thrones books, says that he wanted to have a part and be killed off in the show’s depiction of the Red Wedding.

The Red Wedding was one of Game of Thrones‘ most memorable and shocking moments. Fans of the books knew what was coming but for those who hadn’t read ahead, the scene was almost too much to handle.

George R.R. Martin, the author behind the book series, has revealed on his blog that he actually tried to get a role in this iconic scene so that he could be killed off:

“I also campaigned to die horribly at the Red Wedding, which seemed only fair since I was responsible for it, but it was felt that my presence in that powerful, wrenching, bloody scene might have taken the viewers out of the moment. Fair enough. And not wrong.”

It’s true that for some Martin’s appearance might have been a little distracting but, who knows, with a little makeup and elaborate costume, he might not have been recognised! Oh well. He will have to make do with being the creator of this horrific scene.
