Better Call Saul season 6 doesn’t need a Walt and Jesse cameo says showrunner

June 25, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Peter Gould, the showrunner of Better Call Saul, says that the final season doesn’t need a cameo from Walt and Jesse.

Better Call Saul over its previous five seasons has truly emerged from Breaking Bad‘s massive shadow to become a great series in its own right.

Since the show began, fans have been hoping to see Bad’s Walt and Jesse return for a cameo appearance in BCS and considering the massive impact they have on the life of Jimmy, it would make sense.

However, showrunner Peter Gould says it doesn’t need to happen, especially now that the two beloved characters have returned for the Breaking Bad sequel film El Camino. Speaking to Collider, he said:

“I like to think that we don’t have as much of an obligation to have Walt and Jesse back in Better Call Saul because they’re such a great appearance in El Camino. But having said that, I would love to have them back. I’d love to have Bryan Cranston direct an episode. I got to write an episode [of Breaking Bad] that Bryan directed and I was on set with him every day, and it was a wonderful experience. He’s a magnificent director. He’s one of the few directors who has a facility for the lightest comedy and the darkest drama. He’s remarkable. And Aaron Paul is possibly the happiest human being I’ve ever met, and he makes everybody around him happy. So yeah, I would love to have them back.”

Gould could just be trying to play down expectations for a surprise cameo by the pair in Saul’s final season but that will remain to be seen. As events of the show approach those of Breaking Bad, it might be nice for something small to happen.
