Colin Trevorrow on his “traumatic” experience with Star Wars: Episode IX

July 29, 2020 by Gary Collinson

As we all know, Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow was originally set to bring the curtain down on Disney’s Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, only for creative differences to see him vacating the director’s chair on Episode IX as J.J. Abrams returned to the franchise to deliver the culmination of the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Speaking to Collider, Trevorrow has discussed his “traumatic” experience on Episode IX and the “crushing disappointment” of not getting to see through his plans for Star Wars: Duel of the Fates after investing so much time and energy into the project.

“That was just an experience that, obviously you can imagine, it can get to the point of being traumatic when there’s something that you care about that much and you’ve invested that much in it,” said Trevorrow. “But that’s one of the things that you accept when you take on any role in film, especially when you become a storyteller, that there are gonna be heartbreaks. There’s gonna be crushing disappointments and then there’s gonna be victories and hopefully they’ll balance out in the end.”

Let’s hope that Trevorrow’s next project – Jurassic World: Dominion – turns out to be one of those victories…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
