Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel replaces directors one week into production

August 25, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Back in September it was announced that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is set to be rebooted once again with Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) producing, and earlier this year, we learned Ryan and Andy Tohill (The Dig) would be directing the film. However, it now seems like production isn’t going exactly as planned.

According to Deadline, the Tohill brothers have now left the project due to creative differences after only being “a week into production in Bulgaria.”

The outlet has also reported that David Blue Garcia (Tejano) has already been brought in to take their place as director, and all the footage that had been shot by the Tohill brothers will be scrapped entirely after Legendary “didn’t spark to what it saw.”

This new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film is supposed to be a direct sequel to Tom Hooper’s 1974 original – which revolves around the Sawyer family, a clan of cannibal serial killers – and ignores all later sequels, reboots, and remakes.

The cast for the latest film includes Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner) and Moe Dunford (Vikings).
