Marvel finds its Kamala Khan for Ms. Marvel Disney+ series

September 30, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Two weeks on from the casting of Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk, Marvel Studios has found the lead for another of its upcoming Disney+ TV series.

As revealed by Deadline, newcomer Iman Vellani has secured the role of Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, which will follow the adventures of the young Pakistani-American teen who will become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Muslim superhero.

Kamalan Khan made her debut in Marvel Comics in 2012, with the young hero possessing the ability to stretch her limbs to incredible lengths as well as shape-shifting and the ability to grow or shrink to almost any size.

The character is coming off a starring role in the new Marvel’s Avengers video game, and the plan is for Vellani’s Ms. Marvel to make appearances in future Marvel movies following her debut in the Disney+ series.

Bisha K. Ali (Four Weddings and a Funeral) is writing Ms. Marvel, while directors for the series include Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life), Meera Menon (The Punisher) and Oscar-winning documentarian Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Ms. Marvel is one of a slate of live-action Marvel shows for Disney+, alongside December’s WandaVision, 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, and 2022’s Hawkeye, She-Hulk and Moon Knight.
