Ray Fisher believes Joss Whedon’s exit from The Nevers is due to Justice League investigation

November 29, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week it was announced that HBO has “parted ways” with Joss Whedon on The Nevers, an upcoming sci-fi series he’s created and co-written with his Buffy The Vampire Slayer colleagues Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie, which would have marked his first foray into TV since 2009’s Dollhouse.

Whedon released a statement blaming exhaustion and the challenges of producing the show during the ongoing pandemic for his exit. However, Justice League star Ray Fisher – who has been hugely critical of Whedon for his alleged “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behaviour during the reshoots on the DC blockbuster – isn’t buying that as the explanation.

“I have no intention of allowing Joss Whedon to use the old Hollywood tactic of ‘exiting’, ‘stepping down’, or ‘walking away’ to cover for his terrible behavior,” stated Fisher on Twitter. “WarnerMedia’s JL investigation has been in full swing for over 3 weeks now. This is undoubtedly a result of it. A>E.”

Fisher has been pushing WarnerMedia – the parent company of both Warner Bros. and HBO – to conduct a thorough investigation into his allegations against Whedon, and while it could be a simple case of coincidence, the timing of Whedon’s departure from The Nevers certainly seems to add weight to the above claim.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
