Deadpool 3 will be part of the MCU and R-rated, confirms Marvel’s Kevin Feige

January 11, 2021 by Gary Collinson

When Disney completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, putting the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the hands of Marvel, the general consensus among fans was that the characters would be rebooted for their introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the possible exception of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

We got part of that answer in November when it was announced that Reynolds will be reprising the role of the Merc with a Mouth for a third Deadpool, and now we have word from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige that not only will the film retain the R-rating of the first two movies, but it will also be part of the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe!

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan is overseeing a script right now,” Feige told Collider during a promotional interview for the new Disney+ series WandaVision. “It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

Full disclosure: I showed them Spiderman 1 & 2 and told them it was Deadpool 1 & 2. #Deadpool3 https://t.co/N0IGDbpBK0

Of course, Deadpool’s inclusion in the MCU raises a tonne of questions. Can we expect more R-rated MCU movies? Will Reynolds be portraying a new version of the character or the same Wade as the first two movies? If it’s the latter, could we see him joined by the likes of Cable (Josh Brolin), Domino (Zazie Beetz) and Colossus (Stefan Kapicic)? How would that impact the rest of Marvel’s plans for the X-Men?!

Based on Feige’s comments, we’re going to have to wait a while to find out those answers… in the meantime, let us know what you make of the news on our social channels @FlickeringMyth.
