HBO boss says there are “no active conversations” over the future of Watchmen

February 16, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Despite Damon Lindelof’s DC adaptation Watchmen earning eleven awards at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actress (Regina King), and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series (Yahya-Abdul Mateen II), Lindelof has been publicly vocal about not wanting to develop a second season as it would be a “betrayal” following the show’s success.

Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys has stated that there are still “no active conversations” regarding the future of Watchmen with Lindelof or any other filmmaker.

“No change there. Never say never,” Bloys shared. “But that adaptation was so from his brain it’s hard to imagine somebody else doing it. But there are no active conversations, or courting anybody, or putting it out there in the way that we’re doing, for example, with Game of Thrones.”

Despite there been plenty of demand for a second season, HBO has previously said that any decision on a second season lies solely with Lindelof, while Lindelof has stated that he feels he’s had his turn and it’s time for someone else to take a shot at Watchmen.

Do you think there will be a second season or should HBO leave Watchmen as a limited series? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…

Watchmen stars Regina King (The Leftovers), Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Don Johnson (Miami Vice), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman), Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Andrew Howard (Truth or Dare), Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Frances Fisher (Titanic), Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous), Sara Vickers (Endeavour), Dylan Schombing (Sharp Objects), James Wolk (Tell Me a Story), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries), Jean Smart (Legion), Hong Chau (Downsizing) and Dustin Ingram (Sun Records).
