Nomadland takes top honours at the 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards

The winners of the 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards were announced last night, with Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland putting itself in pole position in the Best Picture race for the Oscars by following up its Golden Globe win with the Best Picture prize, along with Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

While Nomadland scooped the top prizes in the film categories, the night also belonged to Netflix. The streamer went into the evening with a total of 72 nominations across film and television and picked up 14 wins on the night, ten more than its nearest rivals (Amazon Studios and Searchlight Pictures).

Among Netflix’s winners were the late Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Trial of the Chicago 7 for Best Acting Ensemble, The Crown for Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Josh O’Connor), Best Actress (Emma Corrin) and Best Supporting Actress (Gillian Anderson), and The Queen’s Gambit for Best Limited Series and Best Actress (Anya Taylor-Joy).
