Rob Savage’s follow-up to lockdown horror The Host is titled Dashcam

August 6, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

In what has been a particularly trying time for the film industry, one of the success stories to emerge from the past 18-months was the Zoom party poltergeist horror Host (read our ★★★★ review here), inventively directed during the first lockdown by Rob Savage. Well, instead of enjoying their triumph during the subsequent lockdowns, Savage, along with his writing team of Jed Shepherd and Gemma Hurley have used the time to create new nightmare fuel for us to enjoy in the form of Dashcam.

Produced alongside genre specialists Blumhouse Productions, Dashcam looks to be another clever take on the found-footage format, this time using the titular recording device as our lens to whatever terrifying bumps in the road have been created for this horrific 77-minute journey. Set to have its world premiere during the Midnight Madness slot at this years Toronto International Film Festival, the movie’s page teased this brief synopsis: A caustic online streamer’s anarchic behaviour triggers a non-stop nightmare in the latest screenlife frightfest from Rob Savage.

If anyone has been wondering why @douglasbcox & I have been looking so tired this past year, this is why.

Can’t wait to show you guys this demented movie, shot in the height of lockdown with the most wonderful humans & the courageous support of @blumhouse

There are no details regarding a UK release date for Dashcam, but we’ll let you know when it’s your rearview mirror.
