The next chapter of Doctor Who: The War Doctor Begins to arrive this December

September 23, 2021 by Andrew Newton

This December Doctor Who fans can look forward to the arrival of the next chapter of audio adventures for the War Doctor in Doctor Who: The War Doctor Begins – Warbringer.  This three hour epic from Big Finish Production will bring this little mentioned enigmatic Doctor plenty of danger, a fair amount of deception and a smattering of Daleks.

Doctor Who: The War Doctor Begins – Warbringer provides three new adventures for the War Doctor (voiced by Jonathan Carley):

  • Consequences by Timothy X Atack – A ravaged planet on the outskirts of the Time War sees the arrival of the Doctor and agent Commander Veklin (voiced by Beth Chambers), as well as a mysterious survivor who tries to work out how she got there.  However, something is coming and these new arrivals to the planet are going to get caught up in it all.
  • Destroyer by Andrew Smith – The War Doctor, being trapped on a world that worships war, begins to wonder if he could be the Warbringer, a character from an ancient prophecy.  His new companion, Case (Ajjaz Awad), is testing her abilities and it won’t be long before both will need to use their skills against the Daleks.
  • Saviour by Jonathan Morris – Whilst on a mission to destroy a Dalek Harvester vessel, the War Doctor discovers a brand new breed of Dalek.  What the Doctor does sets the events on Tharius into motion and they are devastating for everyone.

Jonathan Carley is joined by Adèle Anderson as Commander Tamasan, Angela Bruce as War Leader Andarta and Stephen Frost as Captain Rondig.

Producer David Richardson said: “Jonathon Carley made such a confident and assured debut in The War Doctor Begins, and I was thrilled by the (much deserved) universal praise for his performance as the young War Doctor.  If you thought that was good, then Warbringer might just blow your socks off – a massive three-hour tale full of peril and world building and tragedy. And, because this is a series about time travel, it’s not always the case that actions are followed by consequences. Sometimes the consequences come first…”

Script editor Matt Fitton added: “I’m very excited to hear these brilliant scripts released at last, having read and re-read them so many times. After his striking debut, this is like the War Doctor’s concept album – one world, and its people, exposed to the horror of the Time War and the worst the Daleks can inflict on them.  Telling the story in a suitably temporally compromised way, and following the Doctor’s ally Case as she’s caught up in the conflict, Warbringer gives us a terrifying and unique perspective of what a Time War really means.”

Doctor Who: The War Doctor Begins – Warbringer is available to pre-order for £19.99 as a collector’s edition CD box set and £16.99 as a download, from the Big Finish website.
