Diego Luna teases the return of familiar faces as Star Wars: Andor wraps production

September 28, 2021 by Ricky Church

As fans await the next TV series from the galaxy far, far away, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Diego Luna has confirmed the Disney+ series Star Wars: Andor has not only wrapped filming, but will also see the return of “familiar faces” in the upcoming show.

In a conversation with Deadline, Luna spoke a bit about Andor and teased fans will “definitely see familiar faces” throughout the series. Some of those familiar faces include Genevieve O’Reilly as rebel leader Mon Mothma, who previously portrayed the character in Rogue One and guest-starred in a few episodes of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. It is possible we might also see the return of Jimmy Smits, who played the prominent rebel leader Bail Organa in  Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One while a rumour suggests Forest Whitaker will also reprise his Rogue One role as Saw Gerrera, a former rebel whose methods were too extreme and bloody for the Alliance. We’ll have to wait and see if other familiar faces include anybody from Rebels, The Mandalorian or the prequel films.

Andor is a prequel to Rogue One, showing how Cassian became a member of the Rebel Alliance and, from his opening scenes in the film, a ruthless operative. “I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Star Wars: Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending,” said Luna, joking about Cassian’s fate alongside Jyn Erso in their mission to steal the Death Star plans. “While I can’t say much, what I can tell you is that the experience was literally a transformation for me. It’s something that I really wanted to do and that I thought I was not going to be able to do. I’m more than happy.”

Andor was also filmed during the pandemic lockdowns, having to work with a reduced crew and under strict procedures to ensure everyone’s safety, something Luna has taken a lot of pride in. “To be honest, it’s been such a blessing to do this job and to do it under these circumstances. I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more. It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky. We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it.”

Star Wars: Andor will stars Diego Luna, who is reprising his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona (6 Underground), Denise Gough (The Kid Who Would Be King), Kyle Soller (101 Dalmatian Street), Stellan Skarsgård (Chernobyl) and Robert Emms (His Dark Materials). Unfortunately, K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk has previously confirmed that he will not be returning for the first season of the upcoming Star Wars series.
