Christian Bale reveals he’d return to Batman if Christopher Nolan had another story to tell

June 28, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Christian Bale has revealed that he would return to the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman, but only if it was Christopher Nolan who was switching on the Bat Signal.

As he prepares to make his debut in the MCU playing the Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, Bale has been speaking with Screen Rant about his iconic turn in DC’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, which ran between 2005-2012, grossed over $2.4 billion worldwide, and is arguably the standard by which all other comic-book movies should be judged. The actor was asked if he’d ever don the cape and cowl again, to which he replied:-

“No. No one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up. Occasionally people say to me, ‘Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.’ I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Before anybody gets too excited, let’s not forget that Robert Pattinson has just gotten comfortable while doing a very good job in the suit during the $$770M grossing The Batman, so much so that a sequel has already been announced, and Christopher Nolan’s working relationship with Warner Bros. ended following their pandemic streaming strategy, so if this were to happen then it’d probably be a long way down the road.

Would you be interested in Bale doing a Batman Returns, or do you think The Dark Knight Trilogy is perfect as it is? Let us know what you think of his comments by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
