Godzilla and the Titans series casts Kiersey Clemons and more

July 3, 2022 by Ricky Church

Apple TV+ has announced the first round of casting for its MonsterVerse Godzilla series. Currently untitled, the series will focus on Godzilla and the Titans with Kiersey Clemons (The Flash), Anna Sawai (Pachinko), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), Elisa Lasowski (Versailles) and Ren Watabe in his onscreen debut.

The series will explore the aftermath of “the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real” and “one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”

Clemons will play May, “an American ex-pat with a roguish exterior that she uses to protect herself as well as others. Whether it be deciphering a code or finding the loophole, she is always three steps ahead of everyone around her.”

Sawai will play Cate, “a former schoolteacher and a G-Day survivor, she travels to Japan to settle family affairs but instead uncovers a family secret. Tired of running from her problems, she is determined to find answers.”

Tippett will be Tim, “an office drone who dreams of secret agent adventure. His overconfidence gets him in trouble in the field, but he is determined not to fail his organization.”

Lasowski will portray Duvall, “an expert operative with unwavering confidence in herself and her skills. She also possesses a wry sense of humor, which she uses to guide her less field-oriented colleague.”

Watabe will play Kentaro, “an intelligent, creative, and curious young man who has yet to find his own path. He will embark on a quest to learn more about his revered yet mysterious father and discover his own talents in the process.”

The series spins out of Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise began with 2014’s Godzilla and continued with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct the first two episodes of the series which has been co-created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction. Black will serve as showrunner while he and Fraction will also be executive producers alongside Safehouse Pictures Joby Harold and Tory Turnell and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd., the owners of the Godzilla character.

This is not the only MonsterVerse project currently in development as a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong has recently been given a 2024 release date and Netflix recently released a first-look teaser image for its anime series Skull Island.
