John Boyega offers an update on Attack the Block 2

July 19, 2022 by EJ Moreno

For fans of Attack The Block, a sequel is something long desired. The alien-filled mayhem of the film made a big impression on everyone involved, especially the film’s star John Boyega.

The actor is opening up about the upcoming sequel and finally offered some new information concerning Attack The Block 2.

In a recent interview with Deadline on the red carpet for the premiere of the new Jordan Peele film Nope, Boyega spoke to Deadline about the long-awaited sequel.

“We’re in the lab. We’re cooking, we’re cooking. I sat down with Joe Cornish just literally a few weeks ago. So expect some news soon,” Boyega said. “We’re still in development but we’re cooking something real sweet. We’ll have something soon.”

Attack The Block came out in 2011 and instantly became a cult classic. The mix of horror, sci-fi, comedy, and action brought together many fans and helped launch the careers of director Joe Cornish and actor John Boyega. The film follows a teenage street gang who must defend themselves from alien invaders on a council estate in South London on Guy Fawkes Night.

The possible sequel could reunite Cornish, Boyega, and the rest of the crew from the 2011 entry. Last year, Deadline confirmed the sequel with Boyega noting that he’s “excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favorite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honor.”

Cornish added in the statement last year: “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
