Lupita Nyong’o joins A Quiet Place prequel film

November 1, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Lupita Nyong’o slayed her role in the modern horror classic Us, and the actress looks to return to the genre again.

Deadline reports that Nyong’o is set to join A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel to the fan-favorite genre entries. The Oscar winner will lead the film, set to look at the early days of the alien invasion.

Nyong’o is currently awaiting the debut of the highly-anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where she will reprise her role of Nakia.

Michael Sarnoski will direct this entry, fresh off his award-winning film Pig starring Nicolas Cage. Sarnoski steps into the Quiet Place director’s chair, taking over from John Krasinski. Day One is reportedly based on an original idea by Krasinski, who will also return to direct a third mainline entry, set for sometime in 2025.

The Quiet Place movies are undoubtedly a global smash. The first entry grossed $341 million worldwide on just a $17 million budget. Part II was released during the early days of the pandemic, becoming the first Covid-era theatrical-only release. It opened to $57 million at the domestic box office in May 2021 and has earned $297 million worldwide.

Deadline reports, “The hope is this film would help set up a potential Quiet Place universe that the studio can build on for years to come. It is also known that, while not out of the question, Emily Blunt and Krasinski likely would not reprise their roles in this installment.”

A Quiet Place: Day One will hit cinemas on March 8th, 2024.
