Emma Roberts to become Tom Ellis’ Second Wife in dark comedy series for Hulu

January 16, 2023 by Gary Collinson

Tell Me Lies showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer and executive producer Emma Roberts are set to reteam with Hulu and 20th Century Television for the dark comedy series Second Wife.

Roberts will executive produce and star in the half-hour comedy series alongside Lucifer’s Tom Ellis, the real-life husband of Oppenheimer, while Oppenheimer will serve as showrunner. The logline, as per Deadline, reads:

Second Wife is a romantic dramedy about the ups and downs of a blended family. Fresh off a terrible breakup, Sasha (Roberts) flees her life in New York to start over in London, where she meets and quickly falls in love with a recently divorced father named Jacob (Ellis). When they impulsively decide to get married, they will soon learn that there’s a lot they don’t know about each other – and they can’t outrun their pasts forever. Darkly comedic in tone, Second Wife is an exploration of intimacy, failure, and second chances.

The series marks the first collaboration between Oppenheimer and Ellis, who will next be seen in Netflix’s Players and also has his own Hulu series Washington Black incoming this year. Roberts has several projects on her upcoming slate too, including Space Cadet, Verona Spies, and Sony’s Marvel movie Madame Web., while Tell Me Lies has also recently been renewed for a second season.
