Mike Flanagan to direct Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill in Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck

May 9, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Doctor Sleep and The Haunting Of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan will direct Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill in an adaptation of Stephen King short-story The Life of Chuck.

According to Deadline Flanagan will once again thumb the pages of a Stephen King book, in this case 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, which contains The Life of Chuck, a Benjamin Button-style tale that weaves three separate stories to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, starting with his death from a brain tumour at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

The report suggests that the film will aim for tonal similarities with other classic King adaptations Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

This will be the third time Flanagan has adapted Stephen King following the critically acclaimed one-two of Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, while it was recently announced that he would also be taking a shot at The Dark Tower for Amazon Prime Video.

Hiddleston, who will be seen next in season two of Disney+ series Loki, is set to play the titular character of Charles Krantz, while Hamill has signed up for the role of his grandfather, Albie.
