Tobey Maguire talks all things Spider-Man, including another potential return

August 4, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Fans are still reeling from Tobey Maguire’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and we can revisit that glorious moment with a new book of artwork from the film that includes some wonderful comments from the actor.

As part of Spider-Man: No Way Home – The Art of the Movie, they interviewed the former Spider-Man on what it was like playing Peter Parker again. Maguire recalls the moment when Marvel contacted him:

“When they called initially… I was like, ‘Finally!’ I just feel grateful—I was really open, immediately, about coming to do this. Not without nerves! But to get to show up with talented, creative people and play together–it’s just a yes. There was such an open-heartedness to coming together and embracing each other and supporting each other that was really beautiful.”

Then Maguire got on set and met his Peter Parker counterparts. He describes it as a “very rich experience.” The actor notes, “Working with Andrew [Garfield] and Tom [Holland] was so dear to me, it really was special—a very rich experience for me, all around. It kind of reinvigorated my interest in performing.”

He adds, “It felt like a real brotherhood, which was what we were aiming for, too, for us and for the characters. But then to have those dynamics play out—feeling a real connection and love for these guys, and having fun and having a laugh—all of that was energizing and reinvigorating for me.”

But it wasn’t just the other Spider-Mans he enjoyed working with; he loved seeing his former co-stars from the Raimi films. He says, “And it was amazing to work again with Alfred [Molina] and Willem [Dafoe]. I adore those guys and respect them as the great talents that they are and also just as lovely humans. It was a blast–it was like a reunion.”

His enthusiasm about the project is reflected in comments he made last year, stating that if it’s anything Spider-Man related, “it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”
