Katee Sackhoff says there’s been no talk of Bo-Katan leading The Mandalorian for future seasons

November 27, 2023 by Gary Collinson

Having made her live-action debut in the show’s second season, Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze took on a much more prominent role in the most recent third season of The Mandalorian, which focussed almost as much on continuing her arc from The Clone Wars as it did the story of Din Djarin and Grogu.

Of course, it’s never been specified just exactly who is The Mandalorian of the series’ title, and with Pedro Pascal’s involvement in the third season limited to just voice work (and a big Marvel role on the horizon for the actor alongside the second season of The Last of Us), might we see the focus on the series shifting fully to Bo-Katan for season 4?

Pascal himself has previously told Variety that he’d like to see Bo-Katan take centre stage as something he’d like “to see for the character and as a fan of The Clone Wars, but now Katee Sackhoff herself has weighed in with her thoughts and stated that she’s not had any talks with showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni about that very possibility.

“I think there’s always going to be a lot of speculation in this fandom,” Sackhoff told The Direct. “You know, I think it’s one of the reasons why people love this fandom so much. And they love this universe so much that a lot of times it allows just enough ambiguity for people to interpret things the way that they want to interpret them. And out of that there is the ability to have a lot of misinformation get out, or just, you know, wishful thinking.”

“I think that the story of the Mandalorians and the story of Bo-Katan needed to be told, I don’t believe in any way that it was taking away from Din [Djarin’s] story, nor was that ever the intention,” she continued. “And you know, Pedro and I aren’t in charge of who gets to lead the show [laughs]. This is Din Djarin’s show, it will always be Din Djarin’s show.”

Although we’re yet to get official word on the future of The Mandalorian, which along with its associated shows like Star Wars: Ahsoka are building towards Dave Filoni’s upcoming crossover movie, Jon Favreau confirmed way back in February that he’d already written the fourth season, so hopefully we’ll get some official word soon.

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

The Mandalorian season 3 sees Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin joined by Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), Paz Vizsla (Jon Favreau), Omid Abtahi (Dr. Pershing), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Carson Teva), Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), Ahmed Best (Kelleran Beq), Katy M. O’Brian (Elia Kane), Simon Kassianides (Axe Woves), Mercedes Varnado (Koska Reeves), Christopher Lloyd (Commissioner Helgait), Tim Meadows (Colonel Tuttle), Jack Black (Captain Bombardier) and Lizzo (The Duchess).

The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are streaming now on Disney+.
